ODP oh ODP oh how I love you so. ODP (Open Door Policy) is a little urbanised/ deconstructed/ grungy looking restaurant by the Spa Esprit Group in hipster central(a.k.a Tiong Bahru) in Singapore – a spin off concept of Tippling Club (at more affordable prices) by the same chef Ryan Clift. They’ve been around for a while (2 years? i think) and it’s our go-to place for date nights whenever we have no idea what new place to try or what we want to eat – ODP is the place because we know we’ll have a good time 🙂 On our latest Date Night No.-Dunno-What (it’s nice that we’ve lost count – either we’ve been on so many or they have been so far apart you lose track haha!) we had from ODP’s latest menu:

Roast Quail with Ginger and Spring Onion

Had the opportunity to have a lunch date with R one day and knowing my *obsession* with Ramen he brought me to Nantsuttei at Parco (Millenia Walk). Continue reading

Not the last Risott(o)

Risotto al Nero di Seppia

Risotto Milanese with Chicken and Prosciutto

Rummaging through our larder a couple of weeks back we found 4 packets of pre-seasoned risotto from Florence – 2 Risotto Milanese (Saffron) and 2 Risotto al Nero di Seppia (Squid Ink) – more than enough to feed a family of 5! Followed the recipes I found for Risotto al Nero di Seppia with Calamari from Honestfood (and added my own scallops) and the recipe for Risotto Milanese from Frugal Flambe. Continue reading

Matcha Sable Cookies

14 Jan

Made a whole batch of these for my cooking class on Saturday – and sprinkled some brown sugar on them 🙂 Delish!

They are really easy to make, put together some batter the night before in a matter of 20 minutes. I just cannot stand to wait for it to harden in the fridge!

Hachi, Singapore

3 Jan

It was a wonderful way to ring in my birthday with Mom and R at Hachi. Helmed by Chef Kishio Watanabe – a Kyushu native, Hachi has been around since 1999 when it first introduced Omakase お任せDining to Singapore. Omakase お任せ literally means “It’s up to you”, and in participating in this form of dining, you the diner are entrusting the chef with your meal and you never know what each dish is going to be.

Uh Oh, Risotto!

Risotto with Cuttlefish Ink and Sauteéd Cuttlefish with Garlic and Chili Pepper at L'Osteria Le Vigne (Milan)

Never being able to master the art of making risotto, I risotto (‘resort to’ geddit?) ordering it almost every time I set foot into an italian restaurant! So… I certainly could not miss it while in Italy right? Of course not!

Seafood Risotto at L'Osteria di Giovanni (Florence)

Zucchini Risotto at Peck (Milan)

I love the comforting feeling risotto gives – it’s my rice fix for when I’m away. With 6 packets of risotto now in my larder, I think I’d better pluck up some courage and get down to risotto making soon!
